2024 Fall Semester Kickoff: Welcoming Our Exchange Students
New exchange students
We are excited to announce that we have welcomed 11 new international students from 8 different countries to our university this semester.
? 1 from California State University, Fresno (USA)
? 1 from Langara College
? 1 from Chiang Mai Rajabhat University (Thailand)
? 3 from Daegu Catholic University (South Korea)
? 1 from Shanxi Normal University (China)
? 1 from the University of Foreign Languages and International Studies, Hue University (Vietnam)
? 2 from the University of Gdańsk (Poland)
? 1 from Soyol Erdem University (Mongolia)
They arrived in mid-September and are currently residing together at the International Hall. Many are pursuing Japanese studies at the university, and all of them actively use Japanese both in class and their daily lives, which raises hopes for further improvement in their language skills.
They had the opportunity to meet with President Tomita, where each student shared their motivations for studying in Japan and their dreams for the future. The President offered insightful advice and encouragement, leaving them inspired as they embarked on this exciting new chapter.
*The students from Canada and Mongolia were not present.

Discovering Mito
Fellow dormmates from the International Hall led the exchange students on a walking tour of Mito. They started by visiting the Tsukuru exhibition (つくる展) at the Museum of Modern Art, Ibaraki, where they had a chance to engage with art. Afterwards, they enjoyed lunch and karaoke, creating a fun and memorable experience. This outing was a fantastic opportunity to strengthen their friendships.
ICS Welcome Party
International Centre Supporter (ICS) organised a welcome party for the exchange students. About 50 people came together for the welcome party, and the venue was filled with cheerful smiles and a lively vibe. The “draw on my back challenge” turned out to be a blast, with laughter ringing out all around! As everyone shared their drawings, some hilarious and surprising interpretations popped up, making it even more enjoyable. It was a wonderful evening that brought everyone closer together and created a warm, friendly atmosphere.
With the support of ICS, the International Centre will organise events such as parties and excursions for exchange students this fall semester. We encourage all students and staff to participate in these activities to connect with the exchange students and enrich everyone's experience.
