The Exchange Program at Tokiwa was something that gave me the chance to change. I got to learn about Japan and its culture of course, but what was even more valuable to me was the time I was able to spend with these wonderful people that I can consider friends long after my time in the program concluded. I got to meet some amazing teachers and staff that I appreciate for taking the time to give us the best experience we could have in Ibaraki and giving us the opportunity to see a different perspective on the country that brought us together. Also Tokiwanko is a great mascot!

My experience in this program has been one of the greatest moments of my life. Originally going there just to study, I found more than what I had expected. I've meet a whole new group of people who I could call family and experience a whole new way of living. Even with my extremely limited knowledge of Japanese I was still able to communicate and connect with so many people. It has been an amazing journey, one that if I could, I would relive. These new found experiences and knowledge that I gain from this program will be carried through my future and I hope to come back to Japan one day.

Studying abroad at Tokiwa for a semester helped give me the confidence I needed to pursue opportunities I felt were too far out of my reach. It gave me a chance to leave my comfort zone, create a home for myself in a foreign country, and create lifelong relationships both personal and professional that have skyrocketed my development and desire to give back to Japan however I can. My advice for foreign students studying abroad would be to keep an open mind and accept new opportunities that you might normally be too afraid to do.

Hello!
I enjoyed my time at Tokiwa so much I actually came back to Mito. I'm currently working directly with the city as an Assistant English Teacher!
If you're interested in living and working in Japan I recommend this program to get a better experience! It's enough time to decide if you're willing to move to Japan for a couple years or just visit as a tourist!
Advice: Go to the International Center for more conversational practice!
Please take the time to study as much as you can!
